Welcome to Cancun city. A magical place to share experience and knowledge about VCA, in this joyful and exotic land.

The 15th Biennial Congress of the International Society of Vascularized Composite Allotransplantation (ISVCA) will showcase two decades of experiences and insights into life-changing anatomic, functional or aesthetic restoration of patients suffering from devastating disabilities or disfigurements. For the first time in its history, the ISVCA Congress is co-located with the Congress of the World Society for Reconstructive Microsurgery at the same venue in Cancun.

The pioneering attempts at kidney transplantation by Joseph Murray in 1954 and 1961 were the foundations of solid organ transplantation. However, early endeavors at hand transplantation in 1964 met with failure. It was not until 1998, that the Lyon team ushered the new era of VCA with the world’s first unilateral human hand allotransplantation followed by successful hand transplantation at the University of Louisville in 1999. Since these transplants, over 250 clinical VCA procedures (including hand, face, uterus, penis, leg, abdominal wall transplants) have been performed across the world. Novel procedures such as VCA stand to change the lives of millions of people, especially those who are disabled or living with devastating injuries which lack any other standard options.
